Since 2022, I've been volunteering my Reiki services at Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego.
I go to Sharp twice each month to provide Reiki to Sharp's patients and staff.
This is a very rewarding experience for me. I get a ton of experience as a Reiki healer. I get to help people feel better, including many people who are struggling with intense pain, discomfort, and fear. I get to meet and collaborate with fellow Reiki healers. And I feel the deep satisfaction of donating my time to a cause that matters to me.
Coming full circle
Serving hospitalized people is especially rewarding for me.
In 2010 and 2011, I was hospitalized for six months while battling leukemia. During that difficult time, a variety of volunteers came and helped me.
A volunteer therapist came and provided a compassionate ear. A massage therapist provided me free back and neck massages. A chaplain visited and provided me caring spiritual support.
When I volunteer at Sharp, it feels like I'm giving back, and it feels like I'm coming full circle. I relate to my clients because I've truly been in their shoes.
Words can't express how gratifying it is to see a hospitalized client benefit from my Reiki treatment. Here are some results I've seen:
my client's face goes from stressed and preoccupied to calm and deeply relaxed
my client goes into a light trance state, like they're in a pleasant day dream
afterwards, my clients often say how soothed and mellow they feel
clients often tell me their pain is lessened, and sometimes gone
sometimes clients describe mystical experiences - one client described being in something like a dream world or astral plane, and I could hear the amazement and joy in his voice as he talked about visiting this etheric realm
A sudden burst of cathartic sobbing
One afternoon, I was treating a hospitalized man in his 50s. He struck me as reserved, a man of few words.
I began the Reiki treatment by working on his upper three chakras: the crown (atop the head), the third eye (between the eyebrows), and the throat. During this time, the man's expression was noticeably calmer than before, but otherwise, there was no significant change.
I then moved down to his fourth chakra, the heart. The moment my hand moved over his heart, the man suddenly began sobbing. It came out as a burst of deep, cathartic crying. I don't know how long he'd been holding back those tears and that pain. I gently placed my other hand on his back and continued to nurture his heart with Reiki energy as he let that painful blockage go. Afterwards, he thanked me kindly, and I saw a newfound lightness and warmth in his eyes.
This anecdote is especially touching for me. It's a testament to the incredible healing power of Reiki. And, as a man myself who struggles with repressed emotions, I related deeply with his experience, and I felt a mix of gladness and inspiration to see him process his emotions so openly and bravely. It feels like an experience I'll never forget.
Let's discuss what Reiki can do for you
I offer Reiki in-person for folks in the San Diego area, and remotely for folks anywhere in the world.
To my amazement, my remote Reiki services have been no less powerful than my in-person sessions. My remote Reiki clients describe incredible and rewarding results, even when they're hundreds of miles away from me. It's a testament to the power of Reiki and the limitlessness of the healing spirit.

PS: I recently conducted a remote Reiki session for a man in his 40s. Right after the session, he told me it was "way more powerful" than he'd expected. I followed up with him the next day to ask how he was doing. He told me it felt like he'd had a "soul detox," and he's since signed up for another remote Reiki session with me. That's music to my ears!
